Teso Gears Up for Grand Welcome of NRM Aspirant Calvin Echodu
A wave of anticipation is sweeping across the Teso sub-region as preparations reach a fever pitch to welcome David Calvin Echodu, a prominent National Resistance Movement (NRM) aspirant whose rise is being hailed as a potential turning point in Eastern Uganda’s leadership landscape.
The much-anticipated homecoming celebration is set to begin with a grand procession from Awoja to Soroti City, drawing thousands of enthusiastic supporters expected to line the route in a powerful display of solidarity and hope. Organized by a coalition of NRM leaders and grassroots mobilizers, the event will feature traditional performances, entertainment by renowned national and local artists, and a parade of dignitaries from across the country.
Peter Edeku Edepu, interim head of mobilization and chairperson of the organizing committee, confirmed that preparations are in full swing and that support for Echodu has surged across the region and beyond.
“We have secured full backing from 8 out of the 11 NRM district chairpersons in Teso, along with endorsements from all 17 NRM regions nationwide,” Edeku stated. “This is not just a political event; it’s a public declaration that the people of Teso are ready for change.”
Echodu, known for his humility and strong grassroots engagement, has rapidly emerged as a unifying figure—particularly among those disillusioned with the status quo. His message of revitalization and action over rhetoric has resonated deeply in a region where calls for meaningful change have grown louder.
The upcoming reception comes amid mounting discontent over the prolonged tenure of Capt. Mike Mukula, the current NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda. Several NRM leaders have openly criticized him for failing to drive development and for hindering political progress in the region.
Among those critics is Isaac Okello Omiat, NRM Chairperson for Amuria District, who sees Echodu’s leadership style as the future Teso needs.
“Calvin is one of us. As a herdsman, he understands our struggles, especially on issues like cattle compensation,” Omiat remarked. “People are not just supporting him because he’s new; they’re supporting him because he’s already advocating for what matters.”
Opio John Richard Edeket, NRM Chairperson for Katakwi District, echoed similar sentiments, describing Echodu’s campaign as a moment of reckoning for the region’s political direction.
“Calvin’s rise is shining a spotlight on years of neglect and internal wrangles,” Edeket said. “Teso needs unity, and he has proven to be that unifying force. His homecoming will mark a new dawn for the region.”
Organizers are urging residents from across Teso to turn out in large numbers—not only to welcome Echodu but also to participate in what many are calling a historic rally for leadership renewal.
As excitement builds and momentum gathers, Soroti City is preparing to host an event that could redefine the region’s political future.
All eyes are now on Teso, where the grand welcome of Calvin Echodu may signal the beginning of a transformative era for Eastern Uganda.
