As the 2026 polls gear up in the Teso sub-region, Orungo County Member of Parliament Teddy Anyuk Osire has called upon the people of Amuria and the wider Teso region to be critical when electing leaders—urging them to choose those who prioritize development and transparency.
Speaking during the recently held belated NRM celebrations in Amuria District, Anyuk emphasized that the era of electing leaders who are full of words but lack action should come to an end, especially when people at the grassroots are struggling.
“Amuria, for years we have cried and cried. Today, we must wake up and elect leaders who act to support us—not those who only talk but fail to implement. The time to change the narrative of Amuria District is now, and we want to leave a legacy of leadership in this mighty district,” Anyuk said.
She pointed out that the district, particularly Orungo County, faces challenges in key sectors such as roads, healthcare, education, and access to safe and clean water—issues she is currently addressing through initiatives like borehole repair.
Currently, Orungo—often described by locals as a long-abandoned constituency—has started seeing signs of change following Anyuk’s declaration to contest and unseat the incumbent, Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, RTD Gen Abubakar JJ Odongo.
Her borehole repair project has significantly improved access to clean water across all sub-counties in Orungo County, including Akeriau, Olwa, Ogongora, Ogolai, Orungo Sub-county, and Orungo Town Council.
Additionally, a notable improvement in community welfare has been the delivery of about 4,000 chairs and tents to facilitate local functions, making it possible for mothers in Orungo to now sit comfortably at gatherings.
Anyuk stressed that what Amuria has lacked for years is leadership that truly understands and addresses the people’s problems—a gap she aims to fill if elected to the August House.
Meanwhile, she expressed her willingness to work with any woman elected as Woman Member of Parliament for the advancement and development of Amuria District.
