Pallisa District Urged to Remain Calm and United Amid Rumors Regarding Pope Francis
By Our Reporter
PALLISA – Leaders in Pallisa District are calling for calm, unity, and spiritual reflection among the Christian community following widespread rumors concerning the health and status of Pope Francis.
Although official confirmation has not been issued regarding the Pope’s condition, the ripple effects of the reports have reached even the most remote corners of Uganda, including Pallisa. As emotions stirred across the district, both civic and church leaders have stepped forward to encourage a posture of faith over fear.
Patrick Duchu, the LC5 Chairperson of Pallisa District, issued a public statement urging the Catholic faithful and the wider Christian community to respond to the situation with prayer, composure, and solidarity.
“As a community grounded in faith, we must remember that life includes moments of uncertainty. Let us use this time not to spread fear or confusion, but to reflect on the values that Pope Francis has stood for—compassion, humility, service, and peace,” Duchu said.
Duchu emphasized that whether in times of celebration or concern, the district has always shown resilience and unity. He also reminded the public that leadership transitions and changes in the global Church are part of a larger spiritual journey that transcends any single individual.
Adding to the call for reverence, Stephen Okwatum, a devoted member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Kaboloi, spoke to the emotional weight many are feeling.
“Our hearts are heavy, and that is okay,” Okwatum said. “We should not rush past our sorrow. In moments like these, we must cling to our faith and engage in solemn remembrance, not panic or premature excitement. Let us pray together, mourn together, and hope together.”
Church leaders across the region are expected to lead special prayers and services in the coming days, offering space for both reflection and solidarity. Faith-based radio stations, including Kyoga Veritas Radio, have also promised to provide updates and spiritual programming to support the community during this period.
Though details remain unconfirmed, what is certain is the deep emotional bond shared between local believers and the global Catholic leadership. Pope Francis has long been admired in Uganda for his humility, his outreach to the poor, and his advocacy for peace—qualities many here have come to cherish and emulate.
As the world awaits more clarity, Pallisa’s message is clear: remain calm, stay united, and keep the faith.
