Busia Uganda: The National Treasurer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oudo, actively took part in the NRM village structure and LC1 flag bearer polls held in Sichehe village, Masafu Town Council, Busia district.
In a remarkable display of unity and mutual understanding, all 30 positions within the village structure were filled by consensus, eliminating the need for a vote. This peaceful approach to internal party elections was commended by Amb. Nekesa, who described it as a symbol of political maturity and solidarity among the residents of her home village.
“This act shows mutual respect and unity among my villagemates,” Amb. Nekesa stated while addressing members of the community shortly after the consensus was reached. She further lauded the village leaders and residents for embracing dialogue and inclusivity, setting a powerful example for other communities across the country.
The Sichehe village consensus process is part of the ongoing NRM internal elections aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and preparing for future political activities. According to party officials, the elections were carried out smoothly in all village polling stations across the district, with most areas reporting peaceful and well-organized proceedings.
Amb. Nekesa’s presence at the polls served not only as a show of support for the party’s democratic processes but also as a reinforcement of the NRM’s commitment to transparency and grassroots involvement. Her active engagement was warmly welcomed by local leaders and residents, who expressed confidence in her continued leadership and dedication to the development of Busia district.
The peaceful nature of the polls in Sichehe and surrounding areas has been highlighted by observers as a positive sign of the NRM’s evolving internal democracy and the strengthening of its village-level governance structures.
As the party continues with its electoral roadmap, officials have urged all members to maintain unity and uphold the values of respect and consensus demonstrated in Sichehe.
