Museveni Rallies Ankole on Industrialization as He Concludes PDM Tour
President Yoweri Museveni has urged the people of Ntungamo District to identify 300 acres of land for the construction of a factory that will manufacture industrial charcoal, a key component in steel production.
Speaking on Saturday at a meeting held at Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo, President Museveni, who was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, concluded his performance assessment tour on the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Ankole subregion. During his address, the president emphasized the importance of industrialization for economic growth, urging local leaders and residents to support the establishment of factories that will contribute to the region’s development.
A notable guest at the meeting was Mr. Jateen Patel, the Chief Executive Officer of Abyssinia Group of Industries. The company, based in Jinja District, is one of East Africa’s largest steel producers, with an annual production capacity exceeding 700,000 metric tons. Patel shared that Abyssinia Group is seeking 10,000 acres of land—approximately 15 square miles—to plant trees and establish a factory to produce industrial charcoal essential for steel production.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote industrial growth in Uganda and create more job opportunities. By encouraging the establishment of industrial facilities, President Museveni aims to transform Uganda into an industrial hub, providing local communities with the infrastructure and resources to foster economic growth.
As he wrapped up his tour, the president’s call for collaboration between local communities and investors reflects his commitment to advancing Uganda’s industrialization agenda through partnerships that drive both national and regional development. The planned charcoal factory in Ntungamo is expected to contribute to this vision, benefiting not only the region but also the country at large.
