Minister Balam’s Appointment Not Born of Jobless Poverty, but Deep-Rooted Patriotism — Lawyer Joshua
KAMPALA — In an exclusive interview, prominent Kampala-based lawyer and staunch NRM Pan-Africanist, Joshua Okello Patrick, has strongly defended the appointment of Minister Balaam Barugahara, noting that his rise to cabinet was not necessitated by poverty, but driven by a long-standing spirit of patriotism.
“Many fail to understand that Minister Balam was already a successful, established businessman before he ever held a ministerial post,” Joshua explained. “He did not come to the government because he lacked a job, but to bring his passion for public service to a national stage,” he added.
According to Joshua, Balam’s dedication to the vulnerable in Uganda is not a recent phenomenon. The lawyer pointed out that for years, Balam has utilized his personal resources, earned from his various companies, to support youth and vulnerable communities long before his 2024 appointment.
Joshua highlighted that Balam’s work as an events promoter and businessman fostered a deep connection with the grassroots, a trait often overlooked by critics. His appointment is seen by supporters as a reward for his unwavering commitment to the ruling party and his efforts to promote national development.
As a staunch patriot, Joshua emphasized that Balam’s actions are motivated by love for his country and his desire to uplift the young generation, acting as a bridge between the old and new generations.
“His support for the vulnerable in Uganda is rooted in his entrepreneurial spirit and desire to see a better life for all,” says Joshua, stressing that the Minister has a track record of generosity that pre-dates his current role.
Joshua concluded by affirming that Balam’s appointment aligns with the vision of promoting patriotic citizens who have proven their love for the country through tangible actions, not just words.
