KAMPALA, UGANDA – Prominent public figure and political analyst Frank Gashumba is a key driver of the Patriotic League of Uganda’s (PLU) rising influence, according to lawyer Joshua Patrick Okello, a supporter of PLU leader General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. As Vice Chairman for the Central Region, Gashumba mobilizes grassroots support, boosts the league’s public profile, and addresses critical issues.

Joshua, a self-proclaimed “diehard” of Gen. Kainerugaba, emphasizes Gashumba’s ability to connect with ordinary Ugandans. Gashumba’s influence is particularly strong in the challenging Buganda region, an area known for opposition. He claims the PLU has gained traction there and is now a significant political force. This local coordination is critical for securing a strong vote for President Museveni.
After devastating floods hit downtown Kampala in November 2025, Gashumba used his platform to advocate for environmental responsibility and government relief. He showed sympathy for flood victims and addressed broader issues like landlord accountability and fragmented authority. By doing so, he aligned the PLU with public concerns.
As a well-known media commentator, Gashumba uses his interviews and social media to promote the PLU’s message. According to Joshua, his campaigning embodies the “good citizenship and national pride” the PLU aims to revive.
Gashumba also demonstrated his accountability by responding to an internal disciplinary matter in May 2024. His cooperation showed respect for the PLU’s structures and allowed him to clarify his actions.
Joshua’s comments suggest Gashumba is a strategic asset for the PLU. By focusing on grassroots mobilization, public issues, and his media profile, Gashumba is helping build the league’s legitimacy. His efforts in the Central Region will be a key factor in the upcoming elections.
