Echodu Urges President Museveni to Fulfill Arrow Boys’ Pledge, Assures Kalaki of Major Road Project

By Mr. Odeke

Kalaki District The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Vice Chairperson in charge of Eastern Region, Hon. David Calvin Echodu, has called upon President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to honor his long-standing pledge to support the Arrow Boys, a group of heroic local vigilantes who helped defeat the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels during the 2003 insurgency in the Teso sub-region.

While addressing thousands of NRM supporters at Kalaki Secondary School in Kalaki District, Echodu praised the Arrow Boys for their bravery, unity, and sacrifice in defending their communities from LRA attacks that devastated parts of Teso two decades ago. He said their efforts greatly complemented the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in restoring peace and stability in the region.

“The Arrow Boys deserve our gratitude and support for their bravery in fighting the LRA rebels,” Echodu stated. “They played a critical role in helping government forces chase away the rebels who had terrorized our people. It is important that we recognize and fulfill the promises made to them.”

Echodu’s remarks come at a time when many former Arrow Boys continue to appeal for government recognition and assistance, including financial compensation, educational opportunities for their children, and inclusion in national development programs.

The Eastern Region NRM Vice Chairperson also used the occasion to assure the people of Kalaki that the Katine–Kalaki–Kaberamaido–Ochero road—a key transport route linking several districts in Teso and Lango sub-regions—will soon undergo construction. He said the government has already included the project in its infrastructure development plans and that work will commence in the near future.

“This road will be worked on soon, and government has already made provisions for it,” he announced. “Improving road networks is a top priority under President Museveni’s leadership, and we shall continue pushing for more projects to enhance connectivity and trade across Eastern Uganda.”

Echodu reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening NRM structures across Teso and mobilizing massive support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections. He noted that as a member of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), he is well-positioned to ensure that the concerns of Eastern Uganda are addressed at the highest level of party leadership.

“With me in CEC, we shall continue advocating for more development and opportunities for our people,” Echodu said. “We are determined to secure an overwhelming victory for President Museveni and the NRM in the upcoming elections.”

The rally in Kalaki drew a massive crowd of supporters, reflecting strong enthusiasm for the ruling party’s programs and Echodu’s continued efforts to champion the development and unity of the Teso sub-region.
