The Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa, Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, officially opened the 2025 Social Communications Week at St. Augustine Institute, Nsambya, with a strong call for strengthening Catholic media institutions through networking and collaboration. The five-day event brings together Catholic communicators from across the country to reflect on the role of media in the Church’s mission.
In his opening remarks, Bishop Muhiirwa emphasized the importance of unity among Catholic media institutions.
He encouraged participants to work collaboratively in spreading the Gospel and communicating truthfully and ethically in today’s digital world. He also reflected on this year’s theme for World Communications Day, “Share with gentleness the hope that is in your hearts” (cf. 1 Peter 3:15-16), calling on Catholic media practitioners to be beacons of hope and kindness in their messaging.
The event features workshops, panel discussions, and liturgical celebrations, all aimed at enhancing the capacity of Catholic communicators and promoting synergy among diocesan communication departments and Catholic media houses.
Fr. Marcel Ajoket, who represented the Soroti Social Communications Commission (SOCCOM), was among the distinguished participants. He praised the initiative for fostering unity and knowledge-sharing and reaffirmed SOCCOM’s dedication to promoting Gospel-centered communication in the Soroti Diocese.
The Social Communications Week continues throughout the week with a lineup of activities designed to empower, inspire, and equip Catholic media personnel for more impactful ministry.
