Akoboi Residents Advocate for Police Post Amid Rising Security Concerns
Residents of Omodo village in Okokoma Parish, Akoboi Sub County, are urging local authorities to establish a police post near the Omodo-Akoboi cattle market in response to growing security concerns. As the market continues to expand, attracting more businesses and visitors, the local community is worried about potential criminal activities that could arise in the area.
Paul Imalingat, the LC1 representative for Omodo, expressed concern over the safety of the village. While he acknowledged that the village is currently secure, he warned that the increasing activity around the market could lead to a rise in crime. The cattle market, which has become a central hub for trade and commerce, is bringing in more people, including traders and customers from neighboring areas. As the market’s popularity grows, so does the likelihood of incidents such as theft, altercations, and other forms of disorder.

Imalingat stressed that the bustling nature of the market creates an environment where criminal activities, such as pickpocketing, burglary, and even physical confrontations, could easily occur. These activities not only threaten the safety of the market’s visitors but also jeopardize the livelihoods of those who rely on the market for business. The lack of a nearby police presence makes it difficult for authorities to respond swiftly to any incidents, leaving the residents and market-goers vulnerable.
In light of these concerns, Imalingat and other local leaders are advocating for the establishment of a police post in close proximity to the market. A police presence, they argue, would provide a more immediate response to any criminal activity, deterring potential offenders and ensuring the safety of the community. They believe that a police post would also foster a sense of security among traders and residents, allowing the market to thrive without the fear of crime.
With the population around the market continuing to grow, the need for increased security has never been more urgent. Local authorities are urged to take swift action to address the residents’ concerns, ensuring that the area remains safe and conducive to business and community growth.
