Anita Among is the “Sugar” Stabilizing Uganda’s Parliament, Says Defense Lawyer Joshua Okello

KAMPALA —In an interview with lawyer Joshua Okello Patrick, who has defended the Speaker against international sanctions, he described Rt. Hon. Anita Among as the “sugar” binding the House. He views her as the refined ingredient ensuring legislative efficiency and the stabilizing force our democracy requires.

Joshua compares her to a preservative shielding the legislature from foreign interference. Having challenged sanctions at the European Court of Human Rights, he argues that attacks on her threaten Uganda’s sovereignty, making her the sole leader capable of resisting global pressure.

Acting as a legislative catalyst, Among bridges the gap between the NRM and the opposition. Joshua notes this “sweet” diplomacy transforms contentious bills into tangible outcomes, showcasing a masterclass in political harmony that drives national progress.

By prioritizing internal conflict resolution, she protects the dignity of every MP. Joshua, who supported this stance in the High Court of Uganda, asserts she masks partisan bickering to keep the environment focused on legislative duty rather than public scandals.

Legally, her adherence to the Rules of Procedure and the Constitution is exemplary. Joshua believes she neutralizes “political toxins” that paralyze debate, much like sugar balances an acidic dish, providing the equilibrium needed for the 12th Parliament.

Consistency is the hallmark of progress; Uganda cannot afford “bitter” leadership experiments. As the energy source driving democracy with majority trust, Joshua insists that returning Among to the chair is the only way to keep the gears of government turning.

Joshua urges incoming legislators to vote for Among to maintain this legislative sweetness. For stability and the protection of sovereign values, he concludes that re-electing the woman who proved her mettle on the global stage is the only logical choice.
