Authorities in Asuret Sub-County Raise Alarm Over Rising Animal Theft
Local leaders in Asuret Sub-County, Soroti District, have expressed growing concern over a surge in animal theft, leaving residents increasingly anxious about their safety and property.
In an interview, Thomas Elimu, the Local Council III Chairperson of Asuret Sub-County, underscored the urgent need for intervention as the community struggles with the escalating thefts. He pointed out that the frequency of animal and property thefts by unknown individuals has created a climate of fear, with residents feeling vulnerable in their own homes.

Elimu recounted a recent case where stolen livestock were recovered, but the thieves responsible for the crime have not been apprehended. This has raised further concerns about the authorities’ ability to tackle the issue effectively, leaving the community in a state of unease. The stolen animals, which are a vital source of livelihood for many families, have been a particular target of the criminals, exacerbating the economic stress faced by affected residents.
Martin Egadu, the Parish Council Chairperson of Omukura in Asuret, has also spoken out about the thefts, issuing a firm warning to those involved in livestock and property theft. He emphasized that the community would not tolerate such criminal activities and urged the perpetrators to desist before they face severe consequences from the local population. Egadu’s statement reflects the growing frustration within the community, as the thefts are not only impacting individual families but also undermining the social fabric of the area.
The local leaders are calling for stronger security measures and more collaboration between law enforcement and the community to combat the rising trend of theft. They are urging both local and district authorities to step up efforts in addressing this pressing issue, with hopes that more visible action will restore a sense of safety to the residents of Asuret Sub-County.
